Getting around
The charming town of Sirmione has a sufficient number of hotels and restaurants. If you are arriving with a car to the town centre, you may need to show your hotel booking so as to be allowed entrance in the town centre. Bus connections are available from Desenzano and Peshiera. Good ferry links are also on hand.
Lake Garda is serviced by many ferries. They are of different type and category and travel on various routes and with various speeds. To get more information, it is best to check at the local ticket stalls, which are set by the lakeside jetties and plan your trip in advance.
Bus connections are available between the lakeside towns and to other destinations in proximity. The local buses operate under the Azienda Provinciale Trasporti Verona. During the high season, they offer a convenient connection from Riva to Venice. For more information, check the local tourist office.
Plane
The area of Lake Garda is serviced by the nearby Brescia Airport. The airport is situated within 20 km from Brescia and 52km from Verona. The Gabriele D'Annunzio Airport, also known as Montichiari, is located in the countryside on a peaceful location. Ryanair Aircompany services the airport. There are some free direct connections to Desenzano. This applies in most cases for arrivals with pre-booked hotels in town, or else there are a number of shuttle buses running to the Brescia bus station. Trains from Brescia to Desenzano are available approximately on every half an hour. The trip takes no more than 20 minutes.
Train
Desenzano del Garda is well connected via train to Verona, Porta Nuova Station. Trains are available on every thirty minutes and the trip takes around 20 minutes. Otherwise, there is an express bus from Verona which goes round the resorts on the lake, including Riva, Garda, Malcesine etc.
